College Named to Military Friendly Schools List for Fifth Consecutive Year
(SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Sept. 10, 2013) SUNY Empire State College has been named to the Military Friendly Schools list for the fifth consecutive year by Victory Media.
“Working with veterans, service members and their families is an honor and we are very grateful for all they have done in service for America,” said college President Merodie A. Hancock. “Empire State College proudly supports veterans, active members of the military and their families with extensive student services through our award-winning Office of Veteran and Military Education and by offering specific academic programs tailored to their needs. Recognition by Victory Media again this year for all of the college’s work in supporting the military community is very satisfying.”
SUNY Empire State College supports the military community through its:
- award-winning Office of Veteran and Military Education
- education partnerships with all branches of the military
- Credit Where Credit is Due: Veteran and Service Member Pathway to the MBA
- Graduate Certificate in Veterans Services
- Student Veterans and Military Club.
“Providing effective support to our veteran and military students and their family members is important to Empire State College's mission. It's a privilege to provide services that have such a positive impact on our students' educational success,” said Office of Veteran and Military Education Director Linda Frank.
According to Victory Media, its 2014 Military Friendly Schools® list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.
“Inclusion on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools® shows SUNY Empire State College’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” said Sean Collins, Victory Media vice president and a nine-year U.S. Navy veteran. “The need for education is growing and our mission is to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools.”
Complete survey methodology is available online.
Now in its fifth year, the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools ® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for Department of Veterans Affairs tuition funding. The survey results that comprise the 2014 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media.
Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an academic advisory board consisting of educators from schools across the country. A full list of board members can be found here.
A full story and detailed list of 2014 Military Friendly Schools® will be highlighted in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools ®, distributed in print and in digital format to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in early October.
