Required Courses

The four core courses focus on content areas essential for all healthcare management professionals, including the roles and responsibilities of managers, healthcare policy, and health economics and finance. A required elective allows you to customize your certificate to meet your specific needs or interests.

U.S. Health Systems (4 credits, introductory level)
Examines the origins, changes and status of major programs that provide delivery, financing and regulation of healthcare services in the public and private sectors. Provides a foundation for further study of accessibility, cost and regulation of health services as they relate to policy, management and economics. Offered as an online course and as independent study.

Healthcare Management (4 credits, advanced level)
Extensive review of the changing healthcare landscape confronting managers, the role of a manager in a healthcare organization, and core competencies for managing in such organizations. Offered as an online course and as independent study.

Healthcare Policy (4 credits, advanced level)
Study of health policy and its influence on the role of the manager and the healthcare organization. Offered as an online course, study group and independent study.

Economic Issues in Healthcare (4 credits, advanced level)
Examination of healthcare markets and the roles of consumers, physicians, insurers, hospitals, and other organizations. Focused attention on the effect of third-party payments on supply and demand and the role of public programs in healthcare. Offered as an online course and as independent study.

Elective (4 credits, advanced level)
Based upon your interests, choose one elective course from among the following:

Enroll in the Certificate Program for Healthcare Management

Currently enrolled students: Submit the online Degree Add/Change Request Form, select “add”, select “CUG” for degree, and choose “Healthcare Management” for program. If you are not currently enrolled, apply online and select the certificate option.

Certificate students who are concurrently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program are eligible to apply for federal financial aid, while those students who enroll only in the certificate program are not.
