Nursing Application Checklists

It is the applicant’s responsibility to gather supporting credentials and submit them to the admissions office by the application deadline date.

Once all applications materials are received by the admissions office, the completed application will be sent to the School of Nursing for review.

RN to B.S. in Nursing

A complete application consists of the following:

  • Online Application including an active, unencumbered N.Y. state RN license number with expiration date
  • Admissions Essay: In an essay of no fewer than 300 words, please describe: [1] how earning a higher degree in nursing will help you achieve your personal and professional goals, [2] ways you would like to personalize your learning while engaging in the degree requirements to achieve your goals, [3] your strengths and experiences (educational, employment, community and personal background) that will make you a successful student in our learning environment.
    Your essay will be assessed on the following areas:
    1. Does your essay address the three questions?
    2. Are the ideas in your essay well organized? Does your essay follow the basic structure of the college essay: introduction, body and conclusion?
    3. Does your essay contain adequate self-reflection and development of ideas?
    4. Are words spelled correctly? Do you use appropriate vocabulary?
    5. Have you corrected grammar and punctuation errors?
    Please take the time to edit and proofread your essay before submitting it. The writing you produce will determine whether you are admitted to the college and will help us advise you on your first enrollment.
  • Official Transcripts from all institutions on the application showing completion of an associate or diploma in an accredited nursing  program. [Note: All undergraduate applicants to the college must prove completion of high school.]
  • Nonrefundable Orientation Fee (waived for veterans and active military).

M.S. in Nursing (Education and Administration) 

A complete application consists of the following:

  • Online Application including an active, unencumbered RN license number with expiration date
  • M.S. in Nursing (Education and Administration) Admission Essay - The MS in Nursing degree prepares graduates to advance nursing practice and education in a complex and evolving healthcare environment. Please address your personal and professional goals. In addition, provide examples of how you have exemplified professionalism as a registered nurse in at least four of the following domains, delineated by the AACN Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education(2021):  
    • Knowledge for Nursing Practice
    • Person-Centered Care
    • Population Health
    • Scholarship for Nursing Discipline
    • Quality and Safety
    • Interprofessional; Partnerhips
    • Systems-Based Practice
    • Informatics and Health Care Technologies
    • Professionalism
    • Personal, Professional, and Leadership Development
     

American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2021). The essentials: Core competencies for professional nursing education.

Your essay should be a minimum of 500 words. Feel free in this essay to write in a personal, informal voice. 

  • Resume clearly demonstrating evidence of clinical practice as a registered nurse (minimum 1 year)
  • Official College Transcripts from all institutions on the application. All graduate applicants must have a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from a regionally accredited institution with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Nonrefundable Orientation Fee (waived for veterans and active military).

Post Graduate Certificate in Nursing Education

  1. Complete an admission application
  2. Hold a New York State or state of residence unencumbered license as a registered nurse
  3. Submit official transcript(s) from a regionally accredited institution of higher education showing completion of:
    • a graduate degree (masters) in nursing with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • graduate level content for advanced health assessment, pathophysiology and pharmacology
  4. Nonrefundable Orientation Fee (waived for veterans and active military).
