SUNY EMPIRE CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE

International Day of Women and Girls in Science is Friday, February 11. Join SUNY Empire for two events that celebrate women in these fields and discuss progress we have made and the challenges we still face. Links to both events (and many more) can be found by visiting SUNY Empire Connects.

When You Picture a Scientist, Who Do You See? A Panel Discussion with SUNY Empire Faculty about the Film “Picture a Scientist”
Thursday, February 10, 6 to7 pm

Please join SUNY Empire faculty members Diana Siberio-Perez, Kevin Woo, and Amy Ruth Tobol as they share their thoughts on the film “Picture a Scientist”, and we celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The film "Picture a Scientist" showcases three women scientists and their journey deep into their own experiences of overcoming harassment, implicit bias, and institutional discrimination. The panel, moderated by Interim Chief Diversity Officer Audi Matias, is designed to generate dialogue on fostering a diverse, inclusive, and understanding environment throughout the SUNY Empire community.

Advancing Women in STEM: A Panel Discussion on Progress and Challenges in Higher Education
Friday, February 11, 1:00 to 2:30 pm

It is no secret that women remain underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematic (STEM) fields. Please join Interim Chief Diversity Officer Audi Matias as she engages in a conversation with three panelists about the challenges of and efforts to support the advancement of women through the ranks in higher education. The interactive discussion aims to provide an opportunity for the panelists to share their journey and initiatives involved in the advancement of women in STEM in higher education.

This event is conducted as part of the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and is co-sponsored by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Office of Student Life.
