End-of-Term Success Strategies
by Amy Mirabelli, Student Success and Development
The end of the term, especially in the spring, can bring challenges and stressors. For many, it has been a long school year — one that at times, felt like a rollercoaster ride that starts in the fall and tumbles at high speed into the spring. The nicer weather and the desire to spend summer days outside coupled with essays, projects, and final tests can lead to feeling overwhelmed. It’s important to keep your morale high as we approach the end of the term. Here are some success strategies to stay focused and finish out the term strong:
Anticipate, Prioritize, Plan for your final weeks of the spring 2021 term by:
- Being mindful of the academic calendar and your learning contract dates and deadlines.
- Tracking your remaining assignments, final projects and/or tests.
- Finding your pace and sticking to it. Thereare recommended hours of study based on the number of courses you have. What works best for you? Many times, this is trial and error.
- Overestimate the amount of time needed to complete an assignment. It’s a great motivator when you finish a task early!
- UtilizeThe Assignment Calculator.
- Create a to-do list. Understand your priorities.
- Get a planner or use an electronic calendar to prioritize important deadlines.
- Be intentional about your study and work time.
- Be alert. Try not to study when exhausted.
- Do less work more often, which allows you to get something done even when you have little time to spare.
