Student Problem Resolution

Do you have a problem or grievance about college services?

Your center has a student service professional to assist you.

Empire State College, accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, is dedicated to providing students with a welcoming and collaborative learning environment that fosters scholarly goals through implementation of various approaches to learning and adaptation to the diverse needs of students.

While Empire State College strives to ensure a positive educational experience, sometimes there are differences of opinion and confusion. The college employs individuals at each academic center and program to facilitate problem resolution. These student services professionals may direct students to the most appropriate offices or resources, advise students of appropriate avenues for appeal or investigate and resolve complaints. The student services professional serves as a neutral investigator and facilitator without advocating for one party or another.

Students are responsible for understanding and abiding by the policies and procedures of the college. For more information on college policies and procedures, please refer to the Academic and Student Affairs section of the college's Policies, Procedures and Guidelines. Here students will find guidelines regarding policies on student conduct, grievances, academic appeals and accommodations for students with disabilities.

Students should always attempt to resolve the problem with the student services professional at their home center or program.

In the event that a student complaint cannot be resolved through the center, the student may contact the college’s director of collegewide student services in the Office of Academic Affairs at 800-847-3000, ext. 2389.
