Cherie Haughney, Interim Assistant Vice President for Communications, Marketing, and Government Relations
Cherie Haughney serves as interim assistant vice president for communications, marketing, and government relations at SUNY Empire State College, where she is responsible for the college’s marketing, branding, media, public relations, and government relations outreach.
Since joining SUNY Empire State College, Haughney has served in a variety of roles within the Office of Communications, Marketing, and Government Relations, including director of communications, director of internal communications, and senior copywriter.
She is an award-winning writer who, prior to joining SUNY Empire State College, ran a successful freelance consulting business, providing marketing strategy and content to colleges, universities, and advertising agencies across the United States. She also served as the account supervisor responsible for higher-education work and higher-education business development at Media Logic, Inc. in Albany, New York. She began her career as an admissions counselor at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh.
Haughney holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh and a Master of Arts degree in journalism from Northeastern University.
