Verb Agreement with "Trick Singular" Nouns and Pronouns

The following words require verb forms that agree with singular nouns:

  • anybody
  • every
  • no one
  • someone
  • anyone
  • everybody
  • nobody
  • something
  • each
  • everyone
  • none
  • either
  • neither
  • somebody

Examples:

  • Monday is the day when each department head in marketing activates his or her voice mail.
  • Everybody who hears little Loretta sing tells her parents that she is very expressive.
