SUNY Empire to Host Panel Discussion on Women in STEM
In celebration of International Day of Women and Girls in Science, SUNY Empire State College is hosting “Advancing Women in STEM: A Panel Discussion on Progress and Challenges in Higher Education.”
The virtual event will be held Friday, February 11 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. It is co-sponsored by the college’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Office of Student Life.
The discussion will be led by Interim Chief Diversity Officer Audeliz Matias. The panelists will explore efforts to support the advancement of women through the ranks of higher education, especially in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, where they are currently underrepresented. The panelists are:
- Marie T. Mora, Ph.D., associate vice chancellor for Strategic Initiatives at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and recipient of a 2020 Presidential Award for Excellence in STEM Mentoring
- Muriel E. Poston, Ph.D., vice president of Strategic Initiatives at Claremont McKenna College, and former program director and deputy division director in the Biological Sciences Directorate at the National Science Foundation
- Carol H. Kim, Ph.D., provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University at Albany
