Professor Margaret (Peggy) Tally, a 2018 Recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching
Professor Margaret (Peggy) Tally is a 2018 recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
"I'm extraordinarily grateful to the chancellor for this award,” said Tally. “It's an incredible honor to work with our students and my colleagues. It's also very humbling to be surrounded by such a dedicated and committed group of professionals, who teach me every day how to be a better teacher. Working in higher education in a public institution is a critical mission in today's world and it is a privilege to be able to help our students develop the skills they need to be engaged citizens.”
Based at the college's Manhattan location, and a resident of Maplewood, N.J., Tally teaches in the college’s School for Graduate Studies and coordinates the Master of Arts in Social and Public Policy.
A member of the SUNY Empire faculty since 1992, her areas of expertise include social policy perspectives, ethics in social policy and media and public policy. Tally also studies representations of women in media.
“It is a tremendous point of pride for the entire college community when our students, faculty and staff are recognized at this level for their leadership, professionalism and academic excellence,” said SUNY Empire Officer in Charge Mitchell Nesler. “It is an honor to offer my congratulations to all of this year’s recipients, whose accomplishments were celebrated by the college throughout commencement season.”
SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson said, “Our faculty and staff educate, inspire and support our students to pursue their passions; they are the driving force on campus. Those we honor are leading this effort through their commitment to their craft and their dedication to our students. I am proud to celebrate and honor this year’s SUNY Empire State College recipients.”
In addition to a certificate of recognition, Chancellor’s Award recipients are presented with a medallion, which may be worn with regalia during academic events such as convocations and commencements.
Tally received her award during the college’s commencement ceremony at Manhattan, held on Thursday, June 7, at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
