Team SUNY Empire gathered in the administrative parking lot at Saratoga State Park and rode to the corner of Broadway and Spring Street to meet with other participating teams and individuals.

From there, the team completed its ride and dispersed to 1, 2, 3 and 28 Union Ave., for the day’s work.

Organizer Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC) estimates that by the end of Friday, May 18, the following goals will be achieved:

  • More than 6,500 biking miles will be accumulated.
  • More than 260 gallons of gas will have been saved.
  • More than 5,000 pounds of CO2 will not have been produced.
  • Rides will have burned approximately 280,000 calories.

Bike to Work Day is part of a week-long effort, held each spring across the U.S. and Canada, to encourage people to bike to work.

Members of Team SUNY Empire are among the 530 registered riders from the Capital District.

Participants were able to bike to work any and all days, Monday through Friday, May 14-18, and have their efforts contribute to team totals, for which trophies will be awarded.

CDTC will present employers in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Schenectady Counties with trophies in recognition of their achievements.

Trophies for each county include:

  • Highest participation rate, 11 or more employees.
  • Highest Participation rate, up to 10 employees.
  • Largest number of riders.
  • Longest bike commute.
