Art of Timothy Cosgriff '93 on Display at Eastman Museum
Artist Timothy Cosgriff '93, regional operations coordinator for SUNY Empire State College’s Genesee Valley locations, and an alumnus of the college, has his work on display at the George Eastman Museum, 900 East Ave., Rochester, N.Y., as part of its annual Sweet Creations Display.
According to the museum, the display is “… one of the Greater Rochester community's most beloved holiday traditions. Sweet Creations provides a visual and aromatic treat for visitors of all ages.”
About 100 gingerbread structures are on display and are available for purchase through a silent auction. Proceeds go to future restoration projects for the museum.
Cosgriff’s two confectionary creations, “Getting to Know You” and "The Ballroom," are inspired by the Rogers and Hammerstein musical “The King and I.”
“The Ballroom” incorporates Cosgriff’s fish-eye image of a tree in front of the museum in springtime and, Cosgriff said, “Look for the small, yellow flowers at the base - it is the spring time of (Anna and the king’s) love."
Cosgriff’s photographs of his creations also are on display and were chosen by the museum to remain on exhibit until Jan. 1, 2018.
The museum is located on the estate of George Eastman, founder of Eastman Kodak Company. The estate was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966.
The world's oldest museum dedicated to photography, and one of the world's oldest film archives, opened to the public in 1949.
World-renowned for its photograph and motion picture archives, the museum is also a leader in film preservation, photograph conservation and educating archivists and conservators from around the world.
