Alumni Spotlight: Mark Spawn '07
Law Enforcement Consultant a Recipient of Multiple Professional Awards
A career law enforcement officer now living in Los Angeles, Mark Spawn '07, who earned a B.S. in Community and Human Services while learning at the the college's East Syracuse location, worked his way through the ranks in Fulton, N.Y., serving as the city’s chief of police for 11 years.
He has been a consultant on projects including sex offender management, harm reduction and policy development, and has researched projects involving children of incarcerated parents, ignition interlock devices, child abuse, off-duty and plainclothes encounters, officer safety, and more.
He was the editor of publications for the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police and produced audio and video productions including "APB: All Points Bulletin" and "The Legacy Project."
Spawn is the voice of the APB podcast series and has provided voice-over for the New York State Division of Homeland Security, a movie production and a historical documentary film.
He has appeared as a subject matter expert on "Most Daring" for law enforcement video clips. He is a New York State Fire Instructor and, in 2008, was appointed by the governor as a member of the State Arson Board.
Spawn is a member of the New York State and International Associations of Chiefs of Police, and a recipient of the Officer of the Month/Living Legends Program by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, Ten Outstanding New Yorkers and an FBI commendation for his work with a Bank Robbery Task Force.
