Tia Brown McNair, vice president of the Association of American Colleges and Universities’ (AAC&U) Office of Diversity, Equity and Student Success, has accepted the college’s invitation to deliver the 2016 Boyer family lecture at this year’s All College Conference.

The lecture will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, Main Hall, Saratoga City Center, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and will be streamed live via the Internet at www.esc.edu/esc-tv.

The Ernest L. Boyer Sr. Family Lecture Series was established in 2004 by Kathryn Boyer ’78 in memory of and to honor her late husband. Boyer served as chancellor of the SUNY System from 1970 to 1977 and was the driving force behind the founding of Empire State College in 1971.

The lecture series also honors Boyer’s son, Stephen Paul Boyer ’86, now an adjunct mentor at the college’s Center for Distance Learning, grandson Gabriel Boyer ’04 and Kathryn.

"It is indeed an honor to have Dr. McNair be the 2016 Boyer family lecturer," said Merodie Hancock, president of the college. "Through the Boyer lecture, Dr. McNair will be a tremendous resource as we recommit ourselves to expanding access, inclusion and, ultimately, student success in the form of degree completion, for an increasingly diverse student population.”

McNair oversees both funded projects and AAC&U’s continuing programs on equity, inclusive excellence, high-impact educational practices and student success, including AAC&U’s Network for Academic Renewal series of yearly working conferences.

She also directs AAC&U’s Summer Institute on High-Impact Educational Practices and Student Success and has served as an adjunct faculty member at several institutions.

McNair earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and English at James Madison University, holds an M.A. in English from Radford University and a doctorate in higher education administration from George Washington University.
