SUNY Empire, IAM Partnership Moves Forward
The new partnership between SUNY Empire State College and the International Association of Aerospace Workers (IAM) continues to move forward. Earlier this fall, the first group of IAM members enrolled in the program.
Registration for the second series of classes offered through the partnership opens Tuesday, Nov. 10. The classes, held at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center in southern Maryland, begin Sunday, Jan. 24, and conclude Friday, Jan. 29, 2016.
The program allows IAM members to earn an associate, bachelor's or master’s degree from the college through a combination of:
- course work completed face to face at the Winpisinger Center
- SUNY Empire courses completed online
- apprenticeship and military training
- prior work or life experiences
- credits from other colleges and universities.
IAM members who are interested in the program, but have not already applied to the college, are urged to do so; after being accepted, they can register for classes before Thanksgiving Day.
Detailed information is available by contacting IAM Education Representative Rhonda Rogers at rrogers@iamaw.org, or James McMahon, coordinator of student services for the college’s Harry Van Arsdale Center for Labor Studies, at James.McMahon@esc.edu.
The partnership is a long-time dream of retired IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Robert Roach Jr., ’96, B.S. in Labor Studies, with a concentration in labor and management relations, a graduate of the college’s Labor Center and a 2015 recipient of the college’s Distinguished Alumni Award.
