SUNY Empire Invites Community to Participate in "America's Parade"
Update: With the college banner at the front, members of the SUNY Empire State College community donned hats and scarves – made exclusively for those participating in this event – and then proudly stepped off last week in America’s Parade 2015, an annual event held on Veteran’s Day in New York City.
The college’s delegation gathered in midtown Manhattan and marched up Fifth Avenue from 26th to 52nd Street.
Participants indicated that they received a warm reception from the VIP review stand, situated in front of the New York City Public Library at Fifth Avenue and 41st St., and many calls and shouts of support and encouragement from spectators lining the parade route.
More than 60 images from the parade are available on the college’s Facebook page.
Members of the college community also remarked on the celebratory atmosphere of the parade and, at the same time, how they also had those veterans who had sacrificed so much for the nation in their hearts and minds.
Update: More than 135 members of the SUNY Empire State College community have registered to walk in “America’s Parade,” held annually in New York City on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11.
Members of the delegation will be wearing college hats, scarves and carrying a banner down Fifth Avenue.
Last-minute registrants are welcome and will also receive a free hat and scarf for participating.
The VIP review stand is located directly in front of the New York Public Library, Fifth Ave. at 41st St.
The parade will be broadcast live from noon to 3 p.m., on WPIX-TV, channel 11, New York City, and streamed live via the Internet at Military.com.
The college’s delegation will meet from noon to 12:30 p.m., 27th St., between Madison and Park Avenue South, with the entry from Park Avenue South. Late arrivals will not be permitted to participate in the parade.
Also, delegates are encouraged not to arrive before noon in order to avoid confusion with other groups assembling earlier at the same location.
