How to Create Permalinks (PURLs) to Library Items
Linking to an item in a library database often requires a few more steps than linking to a webpage. You will need to create a stable link (also known as a 'permalink' or 'PURL').
Instructions for Linking to Items in Databases (by database name)
ACM Digital Library Portal
- View article information.
- Copy the URL from the browser address bar.
Annual Reviews
- View article information.
- Copy the URL from the browser address bar.
AnthroSource
- View article in full text.
- Copy the URL from your browser address bar.
ARTstor
- View the image in ARTstor.
- To the right of the image, you will see a link that starts with "https://library-artstor..."
- Click in the link box and select Copy.
Conference Board Business Knowledge Research
- View the article.
- Copy the URL from your browser address bar.
Ebook Central
- Locate the ebook in Ebook Central.
- Select the title from the search results list.
- Select the menu option for "Share Link to Book" from the ebook page in Ebook Central.
EBSCOhost
(Academic Search Complete, Business Source Complete, PsycArticles, SocIndex, ERIC, Education Source Complete, America History and Life, Historical Abstracts, Environment Complete, Communications and Mass Media Complete, and more)

In the results page, click the title.

To the right of the record, click Permalink.
- Copy the URL that appears in the box labeled "Permalink."
Films on Demand
For a full title:
- View the film.
- Click "Embed/Link"
- Copy the link from the Record URL field.
For a segment:
- View the segment
- Click "Embed/Link"
- Copy the link from the Segment URL field.
Note: we do not recommend embedding video in online courses, as the embed code tends to break.
Gale Group
(ASAP, Academic OneFile, Gale Virtual Reference Library, and more)
- View the article.
- Click "Get Link" from the menu bar at the top.
- Copy the URL provided.
JSTOR
- View the article or chapter listing by clicking on the title.
- Copy the URL from the Remote Access URL field which is located in the left column.
Nexis Uni (formerly LexisNexis)
- View the article or document.
- In the upper right corner, look for the link titled "Actions" and click on it.
- Click "Link to This Page."
- A new window will pop up. (If it doesn't, you need to disable your pop-up blocker.)
- Copy the link provided by the "Link to This Page" pop-up window.
OneSearch
- Search in OneSearch from the library homepage.
- From the search results list, select the link icon to copy and paste a permalink OR you can select the title and choose Permalink from the menu options.
ProQuest
(ABI/INFORM, Ethnic NewsWatch, Genderwatch, ProQuest Research library, and more)
- View the article.
- Click the tab for "Abstract/Details" or "Details."
- Scroll down. Copy the URL from the Document URL field.
Sage Journals Online
- View the article.
- Copy the URL from your browser address bar.
ScienceDirect
- View the article.
- Copy the URL from your browser address bar.
