What is a Thesis Statement?
A thesis statement is:
- A specific claim or main idea that your essay argues, supports or explains
- Usually 1 to 2 sentences long
- Stated somewhere in your introduction
A strong thesis statement tells your audience 3 things:
- The main idea of your essay
- The specific reasons in support of this idea
- The order you'll be discussing these reasons
