English Language Learners and English as a Second Language (ELL/ESL)
If your native language is not English, you are not alone. Many Empire State College students are English Language Learners (ELL) who successfully complete their programs. Use the resources below to strengthen your English language skills and support your academic development.
The Empire State College Online Writing Center contains links to web-based resources for students who are English language learners (non-native speakers of English). On this site, you will find the terms ELL (English Language Learners) and ESL (English as a Second Language) used interchangeably.
Interactive Grammar Quizzes – This Internet TESL Journal Web site provides over 150 interactive quizzes that will test your knowledge of English grammar.
Using articles such as "a," "an" and "the" correctly – The Purdue Online Writing Lab, of Purdue University, has information to help you use these articles correctly.
