Certification Areas and Content Requirements
Empire State College offers certification in the content areas listed below. To meet state education department requirements, applicants must possess a bachelor's degree and 30 credits in their content area. In addition, at least 6 credits of advanced-level coursework is required in each content area (300 level or higher). All applicants must meet general education requirements. (Undergraduate courses with a grade below C and graduate courses with a grade below B are not acceptable toward a content review.)

General Education Requirements for New York State Certification
Applicants in all content areas must have completed 30 semester hours (at least 3 credits in each of the 10 areas) of liberal arts and sciences general education. The written analysis/expression category must be fulfilled with a course outcome of B or higher.
