The Master of Business Administration in Management is a competency-based degree designed for aspiring and mid-career managers wanting to enhance their analytic, decision-making, and communication skills. The program also provides opportunity for specialization within the degree program by choosing electives in a particular focus or by incorporating one of the advanced certificates into the degree. Students choosing this option will earn a second credential in addition to their master's degree.

Program Design

The MBA in Management is a 48-credit hour program that combines online courses with several weekend (usually 3-4) Residencies and provides students with the opportunity to gain up to 24 graduate-level credits for their demonstrated expertise through assessments.

Prerequisites

To be considered for admission, applicants must have undergraduate level courses or their equivalent in: statistics (3 credits), macroeconomics/microeconomics (3-6 credits), and accounting (3 credits).

Applicants should also possess an undergraduate degree in a business field or experience in an organizational setting (business, nonprofit, public sector).

Elective Courses and Final Project

You choose three elective courses (9 credits) to reflect your interests and to reinforce the individual focus of your degree. You are encouraged to use your electives to build a concentration around your final/capstone project (Strategic Executive Leadership). Many students choose to incorporate one of the into their master’s degree as their focus area.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Alignment

SHRM has acknowledged that SUNY Empire State College’s MBA in Management with a specialization in Human Resource Management has received renewal of its alignment with SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates until December, 2020. Throughout the world, 369 programs in 275 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates. The HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
