SUNY Empire Online LEED

SUNY Empire Online operates from a LEED Silver building using 37% of the energy of a standard building of its size. The building was designed to have a many open, comfortable spaces to encourage faculty to meet together, share ideas and collaborate on projects. The openness of the building also allows for a profusion of natural daylight and views to the outdoors. This reduces the need for lighting and provides a connection to the outdoors from almost every space in the building. During construction 920 tons of parking lot material was diverted from the landfill and given to the Town of Moreau. The town recycled the materials and used them for their parking lots. The wood used for construction was certified sustainably grown and harvest. The college is committed to building all of its new buildings with the same commitment to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
