The Apple Tree
After the success of the Academy for Lifelong Learning (A.L.L.) anthology, Ourselves: Then and Now, the Third Age Press, A.L.L.'s newly-created publishing arm, decided to continue to offer A.L.L. members the opportunity to see their work in print. Therefore, in spring 1999, the first issue of The Apple Tree hit the stands. From the cover art work to the stories, poems, essays and interior illustrations, the journal showcased the impressive talents of Academy members, past and present. Some of the work was produced in study groups, while others were produced outside of class.
A new, improved second issue was published in spring 2000 capitalizing on lessons learned about printing and publishing from the first issue. The journal consists of original, unpublished essays, memoirs, humor pieces, short stories, travel commentary and poetry, as well as art and photography.
The Third Age Press editorial board meets four times a year to consider submissions. When sufficient material has been submitted and accepted, an issue is published. Submissions are judged on literary or artistic merit and relevance to the A.L.L. membership.
